The "Someones" Who Help
by Angelia Bostick
Recently my 10-year-old son Caleb and I were running errands. I had the radio on and a reporter related a story of natural disaster and its resulting effects on a community. From the backseat, Caleb, with uncertainty in his voice, asked me a question, “Mom, why did God give me a sensitive heart?” You see, Caleb’s heart is easily touched. He is sensitive to the suffering of others. He doesn’t understand nor especially like the fact that he gets teary eyed when he hears of injustice or pain and suffering.
I was caught off guard by his question. And then I decided on an answer. “Caleb,” I said, “people will hear the story of this natural disaster and will say to themselves and others, ‘Someone should do something to help!’ They themselves will not carry through to help or remember beyond the time it takes to hear the report and make their exclamation. But you, Caleb, and people like you whom God has blessed with sensitive hearts, you are those someones who will help and will care and will pray!”
If you are reading this newsletter it is because your heart has been touched and you have responded on some level to help and to care and to pray for the ministries of Good Samaritan. Because of your actions and involvement you have touched not only hearts, but also lives of others.
You are the someones in our community who make a difference by answering the call to help. For that I am truly grateful because we could not do it without you!
