The Deer Project

Aim to feed. Meet a need.

2011-12 Hunting Season

We've set lofty goals for the 2011-2012 Deer Season, but we know you'll never accomplish BIG things if you don't set BIG goals!
Our goal this year is to bring in 30,000 pounds of processed venison!
So, hunters, as you make your plans this year, consider using up any extra tags after you've mounted that prize buck or filled your freezer, and donate those deer to help feed the hungry in Brown County. Just take your field-dressed, legally tagged and harvested deer to one of our participating processors listed below and tell them you want to donate it to The Deer Project!

Not a hunter? Not a problem!

If you love the idea of helping the hungry in your community, but aren't much of a hunter, please consider donating to the project. We've worked hard this year to cut out any extra fluff so that 100 percent of your donation goes to process deer! Any donation will help, and if we're going to shoot for 30,000 pounds of deer meat, that will take $46,500 to process it all!

History of The Deer Project

The Deer Project began in the 2008 hunting season due to concerned businessmen and hunters who saw an opportunity to partner with Good Samaritan Ministries' Food Pantry to provide protein to fill Good Samaritan’s freezers through the harvest of white-tail deer which are plentiful in the area. Efforts were coordinated with deer processors, hunters, local hunting organizations, high-fence ranchers, and supporters of Good Samaritan Ministries to develop The Deer Project.
The 2010-2011 hunting season was the most successful ever for The Deer Project!
With the help of our generous hunters, we were able to collect 10,480 pounds of venison that translated into fresh, lean protein on the plates of our friends and neighbors who have fallen on hard times.
A very special thank you goes out to everyone who donated a deer or who gave financially to the project! We couldn't have done it without you!

Ways to Help

Hunters and hunting organizations are typically known for their strong sense of community and commitment to special projects for needy neighbors. Your participation in The Deer Project is an opportunity to continue that legacy.

Share some doe

Take aim to meet the need by using one of your hunting tags for a deer to be donated to The Deer Project. Take the deer to one of the participating deer processing plants and feel good in knowing you have just helped feed 45 people.*

Give Some Bucks

Donate “bucks” to pay the reduced processing fee. If hunting isn't your thing, but you want to help, your donation in any amount will go a long way to put protein on the plates of the hungry. Give from the funds you have set aside for charitable projects to this very worthy cause. $1 is all it takes to process 1 pound of venison! Talk about getting the most bang for your buck!

Help us meet our goal for the 2010-11 hunting season's The Deer Project of 12,000 pounds of venison by taking aim to "meat" the need.
